Over the last decade, the European Tree of the Year contest has brought together countless tree lovers from local communities. We are unifying Europe around trees and their fates.
“Old trees are the last traces of a vanished landscape. They are thus often the only living witnesses of our common European history. ” Rob McBride, Tree Hunter

1st ever Tree of the Year Czech Republic contest
The European Tree of the Year contest originated in 2011. It was inspired by the popular Tree of the Year contest, which has been organised in the Czech Republic by the Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation for many years. The European round is a finale consisting of the winners of the national rounds. Every year, the online voting for the European Tree of the Year is organized by Environmental Partnership Association (EPA), of which the Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation is a member.
EPA is a consortium of six foundations from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. They support community based projects which seek to protect the environment and to support and build capacity in local communities. Over the last twenty years, the EPA has provided 10 million Euros of funding to these projects.
