Oak of Russalka

A short distance from the statue of Russalka - erected to commemorate the sinking of this ship with its 178 Estonian and Russian seamen - stands an oak tree with a unique shape. These two symbols are located at a favourite meeting place in Tallinn. This large oak tree became an obstacle to urban development. But the local community spoke up to ensure that the graceful tree would be spared. Hopefully, the oak tree will keep connecting different people and cultures for centuries to come.
