A tree care of by the people

“El Chaparro de la Vega” with around-400-years-old has a size extraordinary: over 12 meters tall, its trunk has a circumference of over 4 meters, the crown has a diameter of over 28 meters and the projection of its shadow is around 580 m2, where it holds the record for the largest number of people under its canopy, a total of 2000 people. It is in an exceptional state of preservation this is largely due to the people of Coripe, who have looked after it for generations. Every May, "la Romería" in honour of "la Virgen de Fátima" is held near the tree.
